ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ enables me to grow by…

ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ enables me to grow by connecting. Very little of my role at ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ is done in a silo. Much of my growth and success comes from helping others be successful. So, connecting early and often helps me be a better colleague, employee, and person.

Describe a ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ project that has inspired you.

This monthly column was written by various young professionals (YPs) in the community discussing topics important to them. It allowed young leaders to have a voice, and helped the (older) establishment in the community (elected officials, business leaders, community organizers, etc.) recognize the next generation of leaders, and invite them to the table.

A day in the life…

Due to my role at ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ, as well as community involvement, I’m often asked to speak at various events. This is me presenting the annual 20 Under 40 awards, recognizing young leaders in the community.

With my expertise in digital marketing and advertising, we hosted a series of free events called Digital Over Drinks. We covered topics such as websites, email, search, and social media.

One of the ways I like to get involved is through community beautification, such including litter clean-ups and tree planting.

Our local brand secured a couple dozen Little Free Libraries, and invited people from the community to build/paint them. The families that participated each received a free library to bring home.

I love spending time with my family having fun adventures. Our oldest daughter is obsessed with dinosaurs (as I was at her age), so we took her to a nearby park filled with life-sized dinosaurs.

Staying active and healthy is important to me. So when my gym closed down for the pandemic, I started running again. Two years later, I’m still running, and I’ve even been using my ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ-provided Peloton account and doing their running workouts (as well as daily meditations).

What are you most proud of in your career at ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ?

In 2014, just a few months into my job at ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ, our president and publisher hand-selected me to lead our internal purpose committee. Due to my community involvement, and years of non-profit work, she recognized it was an extra-curricular role where I might excel. More than just a party planning committee, we planned events, and opportunities for our staff to not only connect with each other outside of a typical workday, but also connect with the community outside of our office. In addition to crawfish boils and holiday gatherings, we also planned and executed various philanthropic efforts, such as building/donating Little Free Libraries, collecting donations for flood victims, and even organizing tours of our facility/printing press, so people/students could see how the newspaper was made.
